Butte College English Courses:

The English Department at Butte College offers a range of courses in composition, critical thinking, creative writing, and literature. In addition to surveys of British and American literature, Mythology, Film as Literature, Existential Literature, Queer Film and Literature, Native American Literature, and Shakespeare are offered on a rotating basis.

In each of these courses, students investigate and evaluate the ways in which literature both reflects and influences various aspects of culture, while also sharpening their critical thinking skills and strengthening their ability to write analytically and persuasively.

English 2 and 3, which enables students to meet AA and transfer requirements, focus on scholarly research and expository, persuasive, and argumentative writing. English 11 further emphasizes the development of critical thinking, logical arguments, and scholarly research.
